Q. What is the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy?
A. The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is a five-day professional development program for third- through fifth-grade educators. Phil and Amy Mickelson and ExxonMobil created the Academy to provide selected teachers with the opportunity to enhance their mathematics and science teaching skills and discover new ways to motivate their students in these subjects.
Q. Where is the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy?
A. The 2012 Academies will be held in Houston, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Jersey City, New Jersey.
Q. What is the selection process for participating teachers?
A. Invitations are extended to selected school districts based on Phil Mickelson's PGA Tour schedule and major ExxonMobil work locations. Each participating district then nominates between five to 10 educators to represent their district at the Academy.

Q. Who is coordinating the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy?
A. Math Solutions Professional Development, founded by Marilyn Burns, and The National Science Teachers Association design the curriculum and manage the day-to-day activities and logistics of the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. Academy instructors are mathematics and science educators with years of classroom experience.
Q. Does the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy need additional resources or partners?
A. The Academy does not need additional assistance at this time. All resources have been provided by Math Solutions Professional Development and the National Science Teachers Association.
Q: How do teachers apply for the chance to attend the 2013 Academy?
A: The application is only available online at www.sendmyteacher.com.
Q: Can a teacher self-nominate?
A: Yes. The teacher simply needs to fill out the application at www.sendmyteacher.com for consideration.
Q: If a teacher applied previously but was not selected, can that teacher re-apply?
A: Yes. The teacher simply needs to complete another application at www.sendmyteacher.com.
Q: Which of the three Academies will teachers selected from the sendmyteacher.com process attend?
A: Teachers selected through the sendmyteacher.com process will attend the 2013 Academy at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy pays for travel, lodging, food and all other related expenses for participating teachers.
Q: When is the 2013 Academy at the Liberty Science Center?
A: The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy that takes place at the Liberty Science Center occurs in the summer, usually in late July. As the dates are finalized, the information will be posted here and at www.sendmyteacher.com. Please check back for the 2013 dates soon.
Q: When is the deadline for submitting applications for the Academy?
A: The last day to apply for the 2013 Academy is October 31, 2012. Selected teachers will be notified by April 2013.
Q: How will the teachers be selected for the 2013 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy?
A: A panel of teachers from the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) will review the applications received. After reviewing the applications, the panel will select the teachers.
Q: How will teachers find out if they have been selected for the 2013 Academy?
A: Teachers will receive notification directly from the National Science Teachers Association by April 2013.
