Health and Safety Achievements

Australia - Longford Plants

  • Australia’s Longford Plants was highly commended in the 2010 Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association’s (APPEA) Safety Innovation Awards for the design and development of a new rescue stretcher transport frame.

Belgium - Brussels Airfuels Services

  • Brussels Airfuels Services and the General Manager received a Safety Award from the Brussels Airport Aviation Awards, recognizing achievements in reducing air traffic nuisance and contributions to the continuous improvement of safety standards and awareness.

China - Exxon Chemical Company Limited

  • Exxon Chemical Company Limited in Panyu, China received the “Safety Excellence Award” from HuangGe Safety Committee of NanSha Safety Bureau in recognition of the plant’s excellent safety performance and setting a good safety example in the industrial sector of HuangGe Town.

China - ExxonMobil Chemical (Panyu) Co. Ltd

  • ExxonMobil Chemical (Panyu) Co. Ltd’s South China Esters Plant received a Safety Excellence Award from the HuangGe Town Safety Committee.

Cyprus - Exxon Mobil Cyprus Ltd.

  • Exxon Mobil Cyprus Ltd. was awarded first place from an annual Government Safety Awards program in the broad category of emergency preparedness and effective interaction with nearby communities, specifically related to the Larnaca Terminal’s response plans in case of major incident.

El Salvador - Acajutla Refinery

  • The Acajutla Refinery received the highest honor in the National Personal Safety/Industrial Hygiene Contest sponsored by the Ministry of Labor and 3M Corporation.

Germany - ExxonMobil Production Deutschland GmbH

  • ExxonMobil Production Deutschland GmbH received special recognition from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Issues in a competition for the “Deutscher Gefahrstoff Schutzpreis 2010” (German Award for protection against hazardous substances). The award recognizes ExxonMobil’s voluntary and consistent application of quantitative respirator fit-testing.        

Japan - Kawasaki Refinery

  • The Safety Manager of the Kawasaki Refinery in Japan, received the Outstanding High-Pressure Production Safety Manager distinction from the High Pressure Gas Safety Institute of Japan, recognizing his long-term contribution as production safety manager in safety maintenance and guidance.

Japan - Wakayama Refinery

  • In October 2010, Japan Industrial Safety & Health Association presented the Wakayama Refinery with its Longest Zero-Accident Record by Industry award, in recognition of the refinery’s 19 million hours worked without a lost-time incident from 1992 to 2009.

Malaysia- Port Dickson Refinery

  • The Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health presented the Port Dickson Refinery with a Gold Merit Award in July 2010.

Nicaragua - Esso Standard Oil S.A. Ltd

  • The Nicaraguan Ministry of Labor recognized Esso Standard Oil S.A. Ltd as an industry leader for their implementation and development of management systems and continuous improvement of occupational risks.

Norway - Esso Tiger AS

  • The Esso Tiger AS Borre Veiservice station received the 2010 Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) award from the Norwegian Petroleum Institute. The station was visited by auditors who assessed its internal controls, management’s handling of employee SHE, employee SHE training, and the general station SHE standard with a focus on matters related to robbery, threats, and violence against employees. The Borre Veiservice station scored 99.5% on the audit form.

Singapore - Singapore Chemical Plant

  • The Singapore Chemical Plant won the Workplace Safety and Health Performance Silver Award from the Ministry of Manpower to recognize our commitment and exemplary standards in workplace safety and health.
  • The plant won a number of Singapore Chemical Industry Council's Responsible Care awards - two Excellence Award for Community Awareness and Emergency Response, and Pollution Prevention; and three Gold Awards in the areas of Process Safety, Employee Health and Safety, and Product Stewardship. Nominations are reviewed by a panel of judges comprising representatives from industry as well as government agencies from the Ministry of Manpower, National Environment Agency and Singapore Civil Defense Force.

United States - Baytown Chemical Plant

  • The Baytown Chemical Plant received the Texas Chemical Council Best in Texas safety award.
  • The site also achieved the National Safety Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, the Million Work Hours Award, and the Perfect Record Award for working more than a year without a lost time injury.
  • The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association presented the site with the Award for Meritorious Safety Performance, the Gold Award, and Safety Achievement for working one million manhours or more without a lost workday.

United States - Baytown Olefins Plant

  • The Baytown Olefins Plant received the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star Among Stars award.
  • The National Petroleum & Refiners Association presented the site with the Award for Meritorious Safety Performance and the Gold Award for safety rate improvement. 

United States -  Baytown Refinery

  • The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association presented the site with the Award for Meritorious Safety Performance, the Gold Award, and Safety Achievement for working one million manhours or more without a lost workday.
  • The site also achieved the National Safety Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, the Million Work Hours Award, and the Perfect Record Award for working more than a year without a lost time injury.

United States - Beaumont Complex

  • During 2010, the Beaumont Complex earned the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star of Excellence for having injury incidence and lost workday rates 90 percent below the National average for other similar operations.
  • The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association presented the site with the Award for Meritorious Safety Performance; the Gold Award for safety rate improvement; the Award for Safety Achievement for working 1 million man-hours or more without a lost workday; and the Award for Safety Achievement for working one or more years without a lost workday.
  • The site also achieved the National Safety Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, Milestone Award for 30 days or more without occupational injury or illness; Million Work Hours Award; and Perfect Record Award for 12 consecutive months without occupational injury or illness.

United States - Beaumont Refinery

  • During 2010, the Beaumont Refinery earned the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star Among Stars for having injury incidence and lost workday rates 50 percent below the National average for other similar operations.
  • The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association presented the site with the Award for Meritorious Safety Performance; the Gold Award for safety rate improvement; and the Award for Safety Achievement for working 1 million man-hours or more without a lost workday.
  • The site also achieved the National Safety Council’s Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, Million Work Hours Award, and Milestone Award.

United States - Beaumont Lubricant Plant

  • The Beaumont Lube Plant received the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star Among Stars for having injury incidence and lost workday rates 50 percent below the National average for similar operations.

United States - Beaumont Polyethylene Plant

  • In addition to earning the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star of Excellence for outstanding injury incidence and lost workday rates and National Petrochemical & Refiners Association Award for Meritorious Safety Performance and the Gold Award for safety rate improvement, the Beaumont Polyethylene Plant also received the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care Energy Efficiency Award and Exceptional Merit Award for Significant Improvement in Manufacturing.

United States - Beaumont Chemical Plant

  • The Beaumont Chemical Plant has been recognized with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star of Excellence and several other National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, National Safety Council and   American Chemistry Council safety awards. Most notably this includes working one or more years without a lost workday.

United States - Chalmette Refinery

  • Chalmette Refining was recognized by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) for its commitment to safety with the Meritorious Safety Performance Award. A 52.4 percent reduction in total recordable injuries versus the average of the three prior years won the refinery the Gold Award. Two achievement awards were also received for long periods without a lost time injury: one for 1,720,378 man hours from September 2008 to December 2009 and one for the one year timeframe from September 2008 to September 2009.

United States - Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant

  • The Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant was recognized with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Region VI Star Among Stars award and with the National Petroleum & Refiners Association's Meritorious Safety Performance Award.   

United States - Shawnee Films Plant

  • In 2010, ExxonMobil Chemical's Shawnee Films Plant was again named a "Star among STARs" under the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).  We have maintained this recognition since 1985 and we were the first facility in Oklahoma to achieve it.

United Kingdom - International Marine Transportation Limited

  • International Marine Transportation (IMT) Limited has been invited to help redefine the British Safety Council’s (BSC’s) rules of assessment. The BSC is introducing a Five-Star-Plus category of inspections and has asked IMT to join the working group that will define the assessment criteria.
  • IMT achieved the BSC’s Five-star rating for the 10th consecutive year.

United Kingdom - Esso UK Limited

  • The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents awarded Esso UK Limited’s Distribution & Pipelines in Hythe and ExxonMobil House in Leatherhead Orders of Distinction for achieving 15 consecutive years of Gold Awards for Occupational Safety and Health.
  • The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents awarded Comma Oil and Chemicals Ltd, a wholly-owned ExxonMobil subsidiary, a President’s Award for exemplary accident prevention efforts.

Environmental Achievements

Belgium - Antwerp Refinery

  • The Antwerp Cogeneration project received the 2010 COGEN Europe Recognition Award for Technology and Innovation, recognizing the project’s groundbreaking technological development for cogeneration.

China - ExxonMobil Taicang Petroleum Co, Ltd.

  • ExxonMobil’s lube oil blending plant in Taicang, Jiangsu Province received 4 Star Environmental Protection status from the Taicang Environmental Protection Bureau, the highest level in the current evaluation system.

Qatar - ExxonMobil Research Qatar

  • ExxonMobil Research Qatar received recognition from the Ministry of Environmental for its comprehensive research study on the impacts of industrial activity on the environment. The study will aid the Ministry in formulating and implementing environmental regulation, helping Qatar and its people realize the Environmental Pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

United States - Baton Rouge

  • Numerous ExxonMobil sites in the Baton Rouge area received “Wildlife at Work” certification through the Wildlife Habitat Council, including Baton Rouge Chemicals Monte Sano Bayou Preserve, ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Sorrento Salt Dome Preserve, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery Mississippi River Front, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refining and Supply Maryland Preserve, and ExxonMobil Production Grand Isle onshore Operations. In addition, the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refining and Supply Arboretum and Learning Center received both "Wildlife at Work" and "Corporate Land for Learning” certifications.

United States - Baytown

  • ExxonMobil Baytown received the U.S. National Recreation and Park Association 2009 Commercial Citation Award, Southwest Region in recognition of efforts at the City of Baytown’s Wetlands and Nature Centers.
  • The Texas General Land Office awarded a Baytown employee with its 2009 Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act Award, acknowledging efforts in protecting and preserving coastal waterways and natural resources.

United States - Beaumont Polyethylene Plant

  • The plant received the American Chemistry Council 2010 Responsible Care Energy Efficiency Award for energy-efficiency improvements achieved through its Energy Shutdown Checklist as well as the Exceptional Merit Award for Significant Improvement in Manufacturing – Project for its Intercooler Cleaning Program

United States - Brookhollow campus

  • The Brookhollow campus in Houston received four U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star awards, one for each of the four buildings at the complex.

United States - Clinton, NJ campus

  • The Wildlife Habitat Council recertified the ExxonMobil Clinton, NJ campus with its Wildlife at Work certification, recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability

ExxonMobil Chemical Company

  • The American Chemistry Council awarded eight ExxonMobil Chemical Company (EMCC) manufacturing sites and Chemical Headquarters with Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Awards, including six Exceptional Merit designations. The winning sites were Baton Rouge Chemical Plant, Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant, Bayonne Terminal, Baytown Chemical Plant, Baytown Olefins Plant, Beaumont Chemical Plant, Beaumont Polyethylene Plant, Chemicals Headquarters Offices, and Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant.
  • The 22 winning EMCC projects reduced the company's total greenhouse gas emissions by more than 300,000 tons annually, representing approximately 3 percent of EMCC's U.S. emissions. This is equivalent to removing nearly 60,000 cars from U.S. roads.

ExxonMobil Chemical headquarters

  • The Wildlife Habitat Council awarded ExxonMobil Chemical headquarters site with its Wildlife at Work certification, recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

ExxonMobil Corporation

  • Ducks Unlimited recognized ExxonMobil for our long history of protecting and preserving wetlands. 

ExxonMobil U.S. Production

  • The Texas General Land Office awarded a U.S. Production employee with its 2009 Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act Award, acknowledging efforts in protecting and preserving coastal waterways and natural resources.
  • The Wildlife Habitat Council awarded U.S. Production’s Grand Isle site with its Wildlife at Work certification, recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.
  • The Wildlife Habitat Council recertified U.S. Production’s Sawmill Creek Trout Pond with its Wildlife at Work certification, recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

ExxonMobil Refining & Supply and ExxonMobil Chemical

  • The Wildlife Habitat Council award 5 sites within the Baton Rouge Complex with its Wildlife at Work certification, recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.  These sites are: Maryland Preserve, Sorrento Salt Dome Preserve, Mississippi River Front, Monte Sanyo Bayou, and the Arboretum Learning Center.  The Wildlife Habitat Council also awarded the Arboretum Learning Center with its Corporate Lands for Learning certification recognizing its efforts in community education and involvement.
  • The Wildlife Habitat Council recertified U.S. Pipeline’s St. Mary’s Island with its Wildlife at Work certification recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

Imperial Oil Limited

  • The Wildlife Habitat Council certified Imperial Oil Limited’s Cold Lake Operations with its Wildlife at Work certification recognizing the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.

Community Achievements

Brazil - Exxon Quimica Limtada

  • The Paulina Fluids Plant received a Friends of Corsini Award for its “Small Hands at Work” project at the Corsini Center Shelter for children impacted by AIDS. The project engages the children and volunteers in tending a bright and playful vegetable garden.

China - ExxonMobil Hong Kong

  • ExxonMobil Hong Kong was recognized by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services as a “Caring Company” for the fifth five consecutive year for its participation in the Junior Achievement Hong Kong program and as organizer of the Global Business Ethics Program.

Guatemala - Esso Guatemala

  • For the third consecutive year, Esso Guatemala’s Reforestation Campaign received the American Chamber of Commerce Annual Award for the Best Community Project executed by an American company in Guatemala.

Italy - Esso Italiana

  • Esso Italiana received the 2010 EUBIOSIA Award in recognition of its support to ANT (National Tumor Association Foundation), a renowned Italian nonprofit organization dedicated to providing children cancer patients with free at-home healthcare.

Russia - ExxonMobil Russia Inc.

  • The ExxonMobil supported Krasnodar Youth Centers “Come In” project received The Best 2009 Program of Social Development award from the Ministry of Economic Development, Russian Federation, recognizing the project’s successful implementation and support for social and economic development.

Thailand - Esso (Thailand) Public Company Limited

  • Esso (Thailand) earned the 2010 American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Recognition Award for the company’s commitment to community outreach.

United Kingdom - Esso UK Limited

  • Southampton City College commended ExxonMobil at its 40th annual awards ceremony in the Large Employer of the Year category, in acknowledgement of the company’s “significant commitment to staff development and training”.

United States - ExxonMobil Corporation

  • In recognition of our leadership and long-standing commitment to combat malaria, Africare, a leading non-profit organization specializing in African development assistance to improve the quality of life in Africa, presented ExxonMobil with its inaugural Corporate Service Award.
  • The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria presented a Partnership Award to ExxonMobil, the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, and Standard Chartered Bank for our collaboration on the NetsforLife® program, which has distributed over two million bed nets and trained nearly 10,000 volunteers.
  • For the fifth year, the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council recognized Exxon Mobil as one of America’s Top Corporations for our efforts to proactively integrate women-owned businesses into our supply chain.

United States - Mobile Bay Operations

  • The State of Alabama conferred upon the Mobile Bay Operation’s Superintendent a resolution honoring him for his many contributions to the community including his leadership in the pursuit of safety, corporate responsibility, environmental preservation, volunteer leadership, and contributions to state and local education programs, as well as philanthropic causes.

  • The Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant received the Texas Chemical Council's Caring for Texas award for its commitment to the community.
